Plant sap analysis

We are very excited to announce the utilization of plant sap analysis in our agronomic recommendations. We have found that soil and water data are valuable but only show us one part of the equation. Plant tissue has filled this gap in previous years but we have found that for the level of detail we strive to work at, plant sap fills that gap extremely well as a rapid turnaround service (3-4 day turnaround of results) of what the plant is doing now, not the few months leading up to that time where a deficiency could be seen too late. Plant sap analysis is the measure of physiologically active nutrients flowing through the plant and is a very sensitive test - we pull and compare old and new leaves, treat them as perishable items and keep them cool/ ship to our partners at New Age Labs overnight for next day analysis and reports back in the following 3-4 days for an incredibly quick turnaround that makes for actionable data.

Measures:

  • Anions: NO3, Cl, S, P Cations: NH4, Ca, K, Mg, Na
  • Micronutrients/Trace Elements: Al, B, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, Si, Zn
  • 'Nitrogen Use Efficiency' measuring efficiency of plant converting/metabolizing N into plant
  • Brix, Total Sugars, pH, EC

Plant sap analysis is a must for a grower or farm who is looking to optimize their growing system and adds valuable context  to whether management practices or certain fertility amendments are indeed working towards what they were designed for. We like to think that yes, soil and water context is critical but Plant Sap Analysis is going the extra step in showing us what actually moving into the plant within the plant (our final report card!). It is also a valuable metric for understanding how efficient plants may be 'operating' with brix and total sugars measures.
